Description
This sheath is designed specifically and exactly for the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe. It is made out of full-grain vegetable-tanned cowhide and then stained with the appropriate color. The leather is treated with Fiebings Mink Oil (available here from us).
The construction of the sheath starts with three pieces of leather: the main body of the sheath, the securing strap and the welt. The main body is folded over a welt that is inserted between the two folded halves which prevents the blade of the inserted axe from cutting the stitch that is placed to hold the sheath together. The sheath is then hand stitched and steel rivets are placed at the corners to reinforce the body. The axe head blade, when placed in the sheath, is prevented from touching the rivets because of the welt. The retention strap is then secured with a steel rivet and a steel snap is added for easy on/off action. This sheath is built to last, and quality hand made in the USA (Spokane, Washington). Finish to the edges of the leather is applied for aesthetic appeal. Watch how this sheath is made on YouTube:

The sheath also bears a maker’s mark, which is updated from “YAE Handmade”, and now reads “ROG Handmade”, as seen here:
The sheath is handmade in Spokane, Washington.

I didn’t think my forest axe could be any more complete, I was wrong! This sheath is the finishing touch! Gorgeous sheath, tough leather, perfect fit! Great prompt customer service! Low waste shipping packing material. Highly recommended!

Excellent tool and stitch work on very rich grained leather. The cover fit perfectly and the strap only had to be stretched a bit – this sheath compliments the forest axe nicely.

I was reluctant to replace the sheath on my GFB splitting maul and small forest axe. I wanted to keep my investments as “stock” as possible but the quality just wan’t there. As soon as I held these in my hand, all that went away. These are the sheaths that are meant to pair with GFB. GFB are expert axe makers. ROG are expert leather workers. Thank you for such a fine product worthy of a fine axe.

Received my axe mask. The snap is a little short of fitting.
What is the leather treated with?
Can I wet with water to get more length?
Thanks

When trying to tighten the lacing of my handle guard, pulling on the lace it broke. Please send me another so I can finish.
Thank you.
Another question. DoI treat the mask and guard with anything or leave as is?
These two Items are well done and of good quality.
I appreciate your help.

Looks and feels more substantial than the one supplied by Gransfor. Can definitely feel the difference in the fit. Shipping was fast as well.
