Description
This sheath is designed specifically and exactly for the Council Tool Woodcraft Pack Axe, both the 19″ version and the 24″ version. It is made out of full-grain vegetable-tanned cowhide and then stained with a brown stain. The leather is treated with Fiebings Mink Oil (available from us here).
The construction of the sheath starts with three pieces of leather: the main body of the sheath, the securing strap and the welt. The main body is folded over a welt that is inserted between the two folded halves which prevents the blade of the inserted axe from cutting the stitch that is placed to hold the sheath together. The sheath is then glued, hand stitched and steel rivets are placed at the corners to reinforce the body. The axe head blade, when placed in the sheath, is prevented from touching the rivets because of the welt. The retention strap is then secured with a steel rivet and a steel snap is added for easy on/off action. This sheath is built to last, and quality hand crafted in the USA (Spokane, Washington). Finish to the edges of the leather is applied for aesthetic appeal. Watch how we make a similar sheath on YouTube:

This sheath is top craftsmanship at an incredibly competitive price. The mask I received from council tool for this axe worked, but was so loose even when fastened, that a slight tug could pull it off. This sheath on the other hand fits like I sent my axe to these folks and they made it right then and there for it ( even though I didn’t). It fits snug and the leather is formed around it perfectly, you almost don’t even need to use the snap.
I have a gransfors bruk wildlife hatchet and you always have to snake the axe in at an angle otherwise you’ll have cut the top of the sheath. None of that funny business here, you can just slide it straight in. At first I thought you couldn’t…but no, you can. Like I said the perfect fit.
It has a nice even simple dye, the stitching is as neat and perfect as you see in the pictures, there is even nice detail work on the leather strap that I can just barely make out and didn’t notice when I purchased it, but it is just an added bonus. The edges and the welt are burnished just right as well.
The fit and finish is great, but will this thing work? Yes, yes it will. It is very rugged, this isn’t a flimsy piece of leather. I imagine this will last a very long time.
You get an awesome piece of kit for a price that beyond reasonable. If you’re looking for a sheath for this axe, but don’t like the council tool heavy duty sheath, this is most likely the alternative for you.
Also this thing shipped out within hours and got here really fast. Top notch service as well!
